peaks (partial tracking)

Hello,
Congratulations for the Ears suite !
I was still struggling attempting to fill a [cage.sdif.peaks.toroll] from a partial tracking done in [mubu.process].
I think I can now use the Vamp plugins [ears.vamp~], or the [ears.peaks~] to do it without mubu. The idea is to fill a bach.roll from an audio buffer, as many of us used to do with audiosculpt and open music (pm2).

As I am not very familiar with the SDIF structure, I don't see how to easily create an SDIF file from the output of [ears.peaks].

In the help of ears.peaks it is written that the output is in the following form:

[ time [ pos amp (phase) ] [ pos amp (phase) ] [ pos amp (phase) ] ... ]
[ time [ pos amp (phase) ] [ pos amp (phase) ] [ pos amp (phase) ] ... ]
...

Looking at this, I think I can manage to filter it out with standard bach objects to directly fill a bach.roll, without having to create an intermediary SDIF file.
Question 1:
For the fft, what would be the best choice between [ears.cqt~] and [ears.stft~]? The "pos" is expressed in Cents in cqt and in Hertz in stft, but what are the other differences?
Question 2:
How would you do to convert the "amp" to a velocity ? A simple scaling? Is it relevant?

Hello, you may want to have a look at the "Audio Transcription" example in the examples folder (or in the examples tab of the overview). Does it work for your case?

Thank you and sorry, Ears was not up to date on the computer I was on, and I had an old Examples without this Audio Transcription section.
I'll have a look to this sinusoidal model (I'm impressed by the formula in the bach.eval box by the way!)

Hey Daniele,

Great work on the package, it is fantastic! Very comprehensive. I thought I could reply here as I had a question about the transcription to roll from the partial analysis. Is it possible to transcribe each partial to a separate voice or staff on a roll? (in the audio transcription example, for instance). So that the horizontal contour of a partial is preserved? I am assuming that the sinusoidal analysis is giving streams like a sdif? But maybe I am wrong!

Hello.
If you want every note in a different voice, you can create a little patch that does that, I'll copy a starting point here below.
If you want instead to force monophony, you can send a message such as
"sel all, poly 10 @reassign 1"
to bach.roll to split into 10 monophonic voices.

Hi Daniele, all,

I am wondering about the averaging that the object does in this case. Is it possible to manipulate that? I am using an SDIF from Spear (mostly) and trying to preserve the partial tracking in the notation. I am trying to (I guess) transcribe the partials from their breakpoints as opposed to any kind of average. I attached an example of the behaviour I am trying to circumvent. Here I just drew two partials in Spear, one horizontal and one rapidly rises. The cage.sdif.ptrack.toroll object transcribes them both as horizontal pitches.

Turning on allow glissandi seems like the right direction. I can see it has breakpoints that are rising in the glissando. Would it be possible to break a partial into regular discrete notes so as to see notes along the glissandi? Would I be correct in slicing them at the breakpoints? I guess I am looking for a situation where I preserve the glissando but every breakpoint is a notehead if that makes sense.

I found the @breakpointshavenoteheads attribute so that is great. I am still curious however about manipulating the averaging that the object does (which I think it says it is based on the bach.reduce function?
