Cage tutorials are not propery linked

Post by Electrumpet » Tue Oct 08, 2019 12:33 am

Hi list,

Good to be back here and thanks for the good work.

In my MAX 8 package installation of Cage the links toward the tutorial patches don't work properly. They do in MAX 7 though. I have investigated a bit and it seems that the functionality of the atoi object has changed. Looking inside the cage.overviewswitch subpath I found a difference in the output of that object between MAX 7 and MAX 8. I think it is about the dot character in the beginning of the tutorial object addresses that is causing the problems.

Best, Hans.

Before atoi
MAX 7 bach.print: 01 • Scales And Arpeggi
MAX 8 bach.print: 01 • Scales And Arpeggi

After atoi
MAX 7 bach.print: 48 49 194 160 226 128 162 194 160 83 99 97 108 101 115 194 160 65 110 100 194 160 65 114 112 101 103 103 105
MAX 8 bach.print: 48 49 160 8226 160 83 99 97 108 101 115 160 65 110 100 160 65 114 112 101 103 103 105

Hi, thanks. We were aware of that bug with newer versions of Max. We have already solved it, it'll be in the next release (it's already solved for the Patreon prerelease).

Thanks for pointing this out, in any case!

Thanks,

It reminded me of becoming a patron!!!

I have downloaded the new packages and it works as promised!

Something changed in searching the help center (bach.tree) though it seems. It is much slower and it holds up my typing in the search field. (max 8.08, Mojave 10.14.6)

Best, Hans.

Hi Hans, and first of all thanks for becoming a patron!

As far as the help center is concerned, it is actually an elaborate system of filtering done via patching (it's a bpatcher, you can open it).
It's not too slow on my machine, but I am not surprised that it is a bit slower than before, since the number of help patches has notably increased (especially with the advent of bach.eval). Hope that is not unbearable for you to use...
Eventually, if it becomes too slow, we may move onto another system, but for this release we would like to keep this one. (Is this a little annoying wait or is it unbearable?)

anoying I would say. Mainly because the engine starts searching before I have finished typing.

It is strange though since I do have the newest 8-core machine so the speed of the machine should not be a problem.
