Sorry, I still don't understand. If you play the second patch I sent you (not one note at a time), you should get different colors for each played note, isn't it?

yeah that's right and it works perfect. https://youtu.be/tE8ACMhifY8 as you can see I playback the midi file and the notes are coloured on the basis of a colour system I implemented. The patch I'm trying to put together, has also a 'trigger one note at a time' system using the increase and decrease (the first patch you sent) and that is the part I can't get the coloured notes in and the play colour https://youtu.be/8xwa95U1sD0

Change the @selectioncolor instead of the @playcolor, that'll do.

Thanks Daniele! I really appreciate your help. I just thought I'd share what I have so far https://youtu.be/a49KvLi6Fvw . Still need to iron out a few bits like when there's a half note the score changes colour, then back to other colour before going to next colour (not quite sure why :? ). But it's getting there. :D
